My family joined me for the big send off at 5:00 am Saturday morning in Cherry Hill, NJ. This was an amazing site to see nearly 7000 riders eager and excited to endure the 76.2 mile journey to Ocean City, NJ.
Clearly my glowing edges were for safety but it can really set off the flash.
The tour had tons of support by over 1200 volunteers. This photo was taken at our first rest stop just over 20 miles into the trip. The rest areas were well stocked with food, energy snacks, fresh cut fruit, gatorade and water. Each rest area was really a party to celebrate completing another leg of the ride. Some of the stronger riders skipped the rest areas and kept riding. Rest assure...I stopped each time!
I met so many people. Every one before the ride, during the ride, and here at the finish line was great. Warm, friendly, and full of stories of why they took part in the ride. MS touches so many lives. Stacey, the woman in the center is the team captain of Team Tania. Our team has 415 members. If you are wondering why I am wearing a different shirt, it's because I'm special...and I was the last to join the team. I am wearing the 2007 team jersey.
As I said, EVERYONE was very friendly. The gentleman in the photo is Alan. An accountant, father, husband, and MS supporter. He and I rode the last 15 miles together. The young lady is the middle is an extraordinary woman. The MS Society has sponsored this ride for over 27 years, this woman has been a rider for 25 of those years. She rode part of the trip this year as well. Who needs biker shorts!
This is my crew. Carol, Alan, and Michele. Both Alan and Michele are VIPs which means they raised over $1000 for finding a cure for MS. I hope to join them with VIP status next year.
The team I rode with was Team TANIA. The woman on the right wearing jeans is Tania. She has MS. This team was started over 10 years ago with a small group of supporters. Now the team has over 400 members and is very close to a combined 10 year total of $1 MILLION dollars!!! This is the first year that Tania has not ridden. The woman in the middle of the photo on the motorized scooter is Linda. She too has MS and is a motivational speaker.
This cycling-themed quilt was created by Elaine Lyon. It is being raffled off on October 12th. I'll let you know if I am the proud winner. If you would like to enter the raffle let me know and I'll get you Elaine's information through our team captain.
Our team banner. Our jersey sponsors were: Valley Preferred, Gateway Animal Hospital, ZAC Holdings, Borghese Law, Devon Health and Knoll. Jeff Tarnoff of Standard Merchandising donated our terrific team socks. Shrivers Taffy, on the Ocean City Boardwalk, donated salt water taffy. Laura Pudloski of The Whole Body Conceptin Bethlehem, PA was Team Tania's official massage therapist for 2008.
Stacey and Michele. Both MS150 veterans!

All team jerseys were on display for voting. There were some very creative designs. Our team jersey was along the side and not visable in this photo. I hope we won.

Thank you everyone for your support. May God bless you.
